Streamyx or Celcom Broadband?

Last week I installed Streamyx at my home. In the mean time, I'm still paying for two Celcom Broadband accounts; one for my use and one for my wife. Economically speaking, I'm not a very wealthy man, being only a government servant, thus terminating one of the Celcom account is a must. But, not after I calculated all the pros and cons, that I've decide upon installing Streamyx.

Streamyx:
Pros: Very fast, with 1.0 Mbps download speed.
Cons: Not portable. RM100/month.

Celcom Broadband:
Pros: Portable. RM68/month.
Cons: Only 384 Kbps (at area with 3G)

Why Internet in Malaysia is So Slow?

This is because of our low broadband quality, according to a study by Oxford University. Malaysians always waste their time waiting for the clicked pages to appear before the screen. Imagine that if we wait for a page for 5 seconds, we will waste 1 minute of our precious time to click 60 pages. And if you are a hardcore Facebook user, for example, you will waste more valuable time, as you do not click less than that, for sure. I hope that the appropriate Ministry will rectify this situation, or we will be left behind in the upcoming global wave.

How to Change 8Pax Contacts

8Pax is one of the features from Celcom which gives its users the opportunity to get a great discount on 8 selected contact numbers, which includes all Celcom numbers 019/013/0148 and also TM PSTN.

The 8pax users will only be charged RM0.15/min and RM0.01/SMS for those 8 special contact numbers. However, the TM PSTN will only include the call package only, not SMS.

Here is how to use the 8pax. All SMSes must be send to 28882. The first 8 contact numbers are free, but subsequent changes will be charged RM1/SMS.

8pax ON - to activate the numbers.
8pax LIST - to see the list of contact numbers.
8pax ADD - to add to the list.
8pax DEL - to delete from the list.

Gua Musang now has CELCOM 3G!

Good news for Gua Musang residents (especially me!) as my broadband modem turns from green to blue light. It started approximately a week before Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year (2008). I hope it stays that way for the rest of my stay in the district (not planning of moving in the near future, though). It was false dawn at Tanah Merah (my in-laws' residence) during last election, when I enjoyed UMTS connection for only about a week, as it turned back to GPRS after the election. However, the district also has Celcom 3G connection now, and I'm not complaining.
